Tomorrow is the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Since underdog, er, underhorse Animal Kingdom won the Kentucky Derby, many are betting on him this go around. Although, it’s never a sure thing.

“A couple of red flags for Animal Kingdom are that the Derby was his first race run on dirt, and he went into the Derby after a six-week layoff. Will his second venture on a dirt track go as well, and will the shorter rest period between races be a problem?” ponders OddsShark.com analyst Jack Randall.

While Dialed In only finished 8th at Churchhill Downs, some smell a rebound as Animal Kingdom’s biggest challenger. But don’t discount Mucho Macho Man, the most consistent performer in the pack, posting Top 3s in in 8 of his 9 career starts. Maybe he’ll win to honor the recently passed Macho Man Randy Savage.

If Animal Kingdom does secure the second leg of the Triple Crown, he’ll only have the Belmont Stakes to surmount. No horse has won the Triple Crown since 1978.
