“My Money, My Choice!” and “Showgirls Against Resort Fees!” are examples of the messages sprawled across protest signs yesterday on the Las Vegas strip. Dozens of showgirls, along with Sin City celebrities Marie Osmond and Penn & Teller, were promoting Caesar’s Entertainment’s no fee policy.
Many travelers don’t realize that several popular hotels, such as the Bellagio, MGM Grand and Venetian, charge mandatory resort fees, ranging from $4.50 – $24.99 per night.
Created to cover hotel amenities such as fitness centers and internet service, the fees are not included in advertised room rates. Since Caesars has chosen not to tack on these additional charges, they claim to be saving travelers $3 million per month.
“It’s extremely important for visitors to the city to be aware of the high prices they could be paying in mandatory resort fees,” said Marie Osmond, who headlines a show at the Flamingo Las Vegas with her brother Donny. “I am proud to be part of this key initiative and even more proud to be headlining at a ‘No Resort Fees’ property.”
Anyone else wanting to support this initiative can participate in the “Take A Stand Against Resort Fees” contest by submitting videos in protest of hidden resort fees. The three deemed most creative will win Las Vegas getaways!
Here’s a video Caesars created as an example.
